Merely 12 days into the new year, I accepted a position more closely aligned with my long-term professional ambitions—one that also offers a welcome measure of stability and financial security. As I adjust to this transition, producing the kind of high-caliber columns my audience has come to expect may prove more difficult, and future pieces will require additional time and care. But don’t worry! I have no shortage of compelling events to dissect with my “award-winning,” smart-ass, research-driven opinions, beginning with the following:

The Newest Baby Mama on the Block

Enter Latto, a rapper whose public persona has long trafficked in contradiction: she invokes female empowerment, sermonizes about low body counts, and indulges in the tired ritual of slut-shaming other women, only to find herself eclipsed by speculation surrounding a pregnancy and an alleged involvement with a married man. That dissonance now appears to animate her latest album rollout, which leans heavily into her “Big Mama” persona while arriving alongside an announcement no one requested and a self-satisfied suggestion that she “wanted to give [us] time to miss her” during her hiatus after Sugar Honey Iced Tea—or, fittingly, S.H.I.T. for short. As a marketing strategy, it may well work; controversy has always been a reliable accelerant in pop culture. Yet the spectacle also reveals something less flattering: not merely an artist capitalizing on attention, but a deeply imperfect public figure who seems fully aware of the image she is curating—a wealthy side chick with little regard for decorum, restraint, or boundaries.

In the announcement, she foregrounds her visibly mature, growing belly, while a fleeting left-hand cameo, widely read as a nod to fellow rapper 21 Savage, who is himself entangled in a complicated domestic history, hovers at the margins of the frame. Whatever the precise contours of that relationship may be, the spectacle is difficult to regard as anything but undignified: an expectant mother linked to a man who cannot show his face in the video or appear beside her openly at public events. What deepens my disappointment is not merely the optics but the squandered possibility beneath them. She has access to better men, better counsel, and broader resources, though she still seems willing to court humiliation, recasting self-abasement as the price of being a “bad bitch.”

As a society, we need to break the cycle of single parenthood. It rarely serves children well to be raised amid instability or within a home shaped by the absence of one parent; they deserve the presence, guidance, and support of two committed adults whenever possible. Parenthood is a lifelong obligation in a way that marriage, for all its vows and rituals, often is not. Marriages dissolve; children remain. That alone should force a more serious reckoning with what it means to bring a life into the world.

Raising children is not for the faint of heart, nor should it be treated as a status symbol for masculinity or womanhood. It demands discipline, sacrifice, patience, and an unwavering sense of responsibility. Children need structure, consistency, and emotional security for their growth and development—not merely the fulfillment of their parents’ desires or egos. The sooner we confront that truth with honesty and maturity, the sooner baby carriages will cease arriving before the foundations required to sustain them.

Wendy Williams Finally Comes Out of Hiding!

Our period of playing Where’s Waldo: Wendy Edition has finally ended! The media personality made a rare public appearance at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), attending the Bach Mai show and LaQuan Smith’s spring 2026 ready-to-wear runway show. Williams donned a complete look by LaQuan Smith for his show, featuring a cropped black-and-white fur jacket, with a huge smile that perfectly complemented her aesthetic.

Reports say the talk show queen, who is involuntarily living in an assisted living facility, arrived at the Classic Car Club show accompanied by her bodyguard, Max Tucci, her niece Alex Finne, and Finne’s fiancé Eric Houston. The crowd was eager to see her, but the evening’s highlights were reuniting with rapper Lil’ Kim and meeting another rapper, named Ice Spice. Even though she initiated this night out, she has no intentions of returning to television in the near future (dammit!).

But in recent ‘nyews,’ a judge dismissed her ex-husband’s baseless attempt to gain control of her guardianship and claim $250 million in damages, further proving to everyone that he’s still an asshole. “He’s a money-grubber,” she swiftly told TMZ. “He’s always been that way.”

What’s up with ‘South Park’?!

As much as I enjoy laughing at an incompetent president at his own expense, I am left frustrated and burdened by the tedious waiting periods for new South Park episodes, which a handful of delays and controversies have plagued since its premiere season. However, as I was editing this column, an episode had premiered after writers admitted fault for not completing the episode on time and after the infamous – and damming – removal of Jimmy Kimmel’s show from the FCC due to conservatives getting but-hurt over Charlie Kirk comments, further demonstrating how South Park’s satire effectively illustrates current events.

Setting aside ignorance of the First Amendment, the episode in question doesn’t explicitly criticize how the Trump administration pressured ABC and affiliate owners to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live!, although creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone clearly share their opinions. Carr appears in a subplot where Donald Trump tries to get rid of his unborn butt baby with Satan (lol), with all of Trump’s wild schemes continually backfiring on him.

Since then, the creators have been releasing new episodes at a turtle’s pace, with Season 27 ending after only five episodes. While some think it’s a glitch caused by the FCC or a deliberate, lucrative move to fulfill the creator’s contractual obligations, a show representative explained that it was actually due to a case of misreporting, as Season 27 was never planned to be a full 10 episodes. The showrunners intended for Seasons 27 and 28 to have five episodes each. What a great and ingenious way to utilize a 10-year, $3 billion deal.

Step Aside, Cardi B: Nicki Minaj IS The Drama.

Not only has Cardi B been showcasing excellent marketing and promotion for her second album, Am I The Drama?, but she also hasn’t needed to make any extra effort after its release. Enter Nicki Minaj, a veteran artist whose legacy appears to be deteriorating as she increasingly acts like a professional buffoon. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to address someone who played a role in shaping my childhood and teenage years. Still, the exhaustion of witnessing heated exchanges on social media over time has officially retired my allegiance to the “Barbs.”

As soon as Cardi B released her album, Nicki Minaj posted on social media with a date and a CD emoji, teasing an upcoming album. This follows a pattern where Nicki posts shortly after Cardi, further showing her rivalry and disdain for the rapper. The feud escalated with more insults, unnecessary mentions, and marketing efforts aimed at directing her loyal fans—or what’s left of them—to stream her recent album, Pink Friday 2. When Cardi responded and commented, Nicki fired back, and both women exchanged even harsher insults, including mentions of their children.

Although tensions seemed to ease, Cardi still sticks by her words and is waiting for Nicki’s next move, if she has one. While she waits, she continues to promote her album and takes on new brand deals.

And as for the release of Nicki Minaj’s latest album, well, it never really existed in the first place(?).

Ooohh, Lawd! Not D’Angelo!!!

Damn. Shit. Motherfucker! … is exactly what I’ve audibly exclaimed when learning that D’Angelo passed away from pancreatic cancer at the young age of 51.

An elusive yet highly influential artist of remarkable talent, he released only three albums during his lifetime: his 1995 debut Brown Sugar, 2000’s Voodoo, and 2014’s Black Messiah. His debut combined classic R&B with hip-hop influences, creating a unique sound, but in later albums, he shifted toward a more soulful and innovative style. This Grammy Award-winning eye-candy was instrumental in popularizing the neo-soul movement alongside icons like Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill.

Soon after his passing, his family issued a statement to Variety:

We also need to keep his children in our thoughts and prayers, especially Michael Archer II, who, in just 7 months, also lost his mother, Angie Stone, a beacon of music in her own right. He also issued his own statement:

Wendy Osefo, ‘I was ROOTING for you!’

Here’s a saying that resonates with Black people, especially women like myself: We work twice as hard to achieve half of what [white people] have. For generations, unlike our counterparts, we haven’t been given the privilege to fail because American society has been racially and economically disadvantaged since its inception. When we see a small percentage of Black people succeeding in fields beyond sports and entertainment, it serves as both inspiration and intrigue. And the more we motivate ourselves to reach our goals, the more endless the possibilities become. That’s why I was very disappointed to learn that Wendy Osefo, someone I’ve admired from watching The Real Housewives of Potomac (RHOP) alongside her husband, Eddie, was being indicted by a grand jury for allegedly falsely reporting a home burglary and theft, per NBC News.

Both Wendy and her husband are charged with 16 counts involving providing false or misleading information, fraud, and making false statements to an officer, according to court records. What happened was deputies were called to the couple’s Finksburg home on April 7, 2024, after a report of burglary and theft following their return from vacation. The couple claimed that jewelry, luxury goods, clothing, and shoes worth more than $200,000 had been stolen. However, during the investigation, the sheriff’s office stated that detectives found they had returned about $20,000 worth of the supposedly stolen items to the stores where they bought them. Detectives also discovered images of one of them wearing jewelry reported stolen after the burglary, which led to a search warrant being issued for the couple’s home. They were taken into custody the following Thursday.

What heightened my disappointment even further is that Wendy has distinguished herself from her castmates with her professional and academic achievements, including four degrees and a residency at a prestigious university. She even proudly bragged about her husband’s newest cannabis venture, which she helped facilitate. I hope that this indiscretion serves as a wake-up call for her to reconsider her priorities elsewhere, preferably not driven by either her husband’s or her own ignorance.

Consider GloRilla—born Gloria Hallelujah Woods. From austere, unconventional beginnings, she transformed the constraints of a marginalized upbringing into a driving force through craft, ambition, and open-hearted faith. Her brash, Memphis-rooted vernacular did not narrow her appeal; it honed a distinct persona even as networks, sponsorships, and entry into selective rooms expanded her reach. Collaborations with Megan Thee Stallion and a brand tie-up with Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty mark clear inflection points, recalibrating both image and repertoire.

The momentum shifted in July, when she was swept into an episode unrelated to her DUI arrest the previous April. According to reports, while she was out, Atlanta police responded to her home early Sunday after three suspected intruders attempted to force entry. Officers who entered allegedly found “a significant amount” of marijuana, and she was later booked on two counts: drug possession and possession of a controlled substance. She turned herself in at the Forsyth County Jail, posted a $22,260 bond, and—true to form—voiced her frustration across social media:

"CRAZY!! My House got Home Invaded Saturday […] While I was in Indianapolis performing for the WNBA all star game & instead of focusing on finding the suspects, they focus on some cannabis."

Conflicted personas have lately shadowed another star, Lil Nas X—born Montero Lamar Hill. Tabloids including TMZ and Page Six, citing an LAPD spokesperson, reported that officers were called to Ventura Boulevard after complaints about a man wearing only underwear and cowboy boots. Police transported him to a hospital on suspicion of overdose, and he later spent the weekend in custody. He has since pleaded not guilty to four felony counts—three alleging battery with injury on a police officer and one alleging resistance of an executive officer—after authorities said he assaulted officers attempting to detain him. His father disputes any overdose, framing the episode as an emotional collapse born of fame’s pressure.

Different cases, similar volatility. Both incidents stirred controversy that blurs distinctions between persona and person, privilege and responsibility. Whatever one’s sympathies, GloRilla and Lil Nas X—like any public figure—remain human and fallible. Our parasocial expectations inflate fantasies, invite intrusion, and amplify missteps. Yet celebrity also magnifies accountability: fleeting choices carry outsized consequences, particularly for those drafted—without consent—into the role of exemplar.

Thus, the forthcoming album, intriguingly entitled Am I The Drama? and scheduled for release on September 19th, emerges less as a perfunctory obligation toward a contractual arrangement and more as an earnest creative gesture explicitly attuned to her dedicated audience.

Similarly, the legal experts at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips project approximately $3.4 million in yearly earnings. Over its 30-year history, these cumulative revenue streams have reportedly brought in around $103 million, according to Manatt's calculations. These projections encompass global earnings from streaming and non-streaming sources, underscoring Mariah's Christmas anthem's enduring and lucrative appeal. Following an extensive three-week trial, a federal jury in Orange County, California, rendered a verdict against toy giant MGA Entertainment, concluding that the company had indeed infringed upon the intellectual property rights of the former girl group OMG Girlz, with seven of its dolls. The ruling came after vigorous arguments from the legal team representing hip-hop couple T.I. and Tiny, who accused MGA of "bullying and misrepresentations" throughout the dispute. The jury awarded substantial damages to the couple, amounting to $17.8 million in compensatory damages, reflecting the profits MGA Entertainment acknowledged earning from the disputed dolls. In addition, the court imposed $53.6 million in punitive damages, bringing the total to an impressive $71 million.

During the trial, the three founding members of the OMG Girlz—Zonnique “Star” Pullins, Bahja "Beauty" Rodriguez, and Breaunna "Babydoll" Womack—testified, asserting that the dolls in question mimicked their distinctive appearances from specific public events. The plaintiffs’ legal team bolstered their case by presenting social media posts from fans who independently remarked on the striking resemblance between the dolls and the band members, with many assuming that the group inspired the dolls.

MGA contended that the company had not misappropriated the identity of the OMG Girlz, arguing that the dolls would not reasonably be confused with the "short-lived" music group, which disbanded in 2015. Moreover, MGA asserted that the group had not suffered any tangible harm or lost business opportunities due to the dolls’ existence, challenging the basis for the plaintiffs' claims of infringement and damages. The defense sought to diminish the plaintiffs' assertions by emphasizing the temporal distance between the band's dissolution and the release of the dolls and the absence of demonstrable negative impacts on the group’s legacy or potential commercial ventures.

This recent lawsuit marks the third legal attempt by T.I. and Tiny to challenge MGA Entertainment over the dolls, alleging that the company unlawfully appropriated the image and style of a group of "young multicultural women," thereby engaging in "cultural appropriation and outright theft." The protracted legal battle has seen varied outcomes: the first case resulted in a mistrial, while the second initially concluded in MGA’s favor before the verdict was overturned on appeal. The plaintiffs have consistently argued that the dolls exploit the cultural identity and distinctive aesthetics of the OMG Girlz, underscoring their persistent efforts to seek justice for what they view as a flagrant violation of their intellectual property and cultural heritage.

The unanimous verdict determined that all seven of the specific dolls presented in court, from a broader collection of 32, unlawfully replicated the likeness and trade dress of the Atlanta-based group. While the jury did not find that all of the remaining dolls constituted infringement, it was noted that some of these other dolls were found to have copied the likeness of high-profile artists such as Beyoncé and Lady Gaga.

Following the ruling, Tiny expressed her astonishment and gratitude in an interview with Rolling Stone, reflecting on the jury's decision. "I mean, wow. They did more than I thought they would," she remarked. "I would have been happy with whatever. They blessed us more than beyond." Tiny also mentioned a lingering wish: "We wanted to thank the jurors but didn’t get the opportunity."

Despite being inactive for several years, the OMG Girlz recently made a notable return. Just recently, the original trio reunited to talk about new music and unveiled the music video for their track "Motion."

The recognition of Black women's enduring influence has too often been neglected, minimized by societal structures, and disregarded by those around them. The persistent oversight prompts an essential examination of the much-delayed acknowledgment of their fortitude—celebrated and unseen. Elevating the narratives of these women does more than merely inspire; it catalyzes the next generation, fostering a collective aspiration for a future where the principles of diversity and inclusion are not just token gestures but are ingrained as fundamental and transformative forces within our cultural and social fabric.

The recent rise of Black women in prominent entertainment venues, commanding substantial platforms, presents a paradox rich in promise and potential peril. On the one hand, these achievements can inadvertently confine their breadth of influence, reducing them to mere spectacles for public consumption. Yet, on the other hand, this visibility offers an extraordinary opportunity to showcase their singular abilities—whether excelling in the ring as professional wrestlers or competing as Olympians of the highest caliber. Through these displays, they might carve out a unique cultural space distinct from society's often narrow interpretations, which remain heavily influenced by entrenched norms of male hegemony.

However, while this burgeoning recognition brings much-needed visibility to a historically marginalized group, we must uphold the principles of equity, representation, and dignity. Our endeavors must remain anchored in a relentless pursuit of fairness and respect, consistently championing these values to reshape the prevailing narrative and advance a more inclusive cultural paradigm.

An intriguing example resides within the electrifying arena of WWE. In this domain, raucous live entertainment seamlessly melds with a reflection of contemporary social values and expectations, albeit through a hyper-exaggerated lens. WWE wields its cultural influence by showcasing a broad spectrum of performers, from herculean men to formidable women who, despite their prowess, are often diminished by formulaic narratives and monotonous promotional monologues delivered by marquee wrestlers. Amidst the constant evolution of talent, there has been a slow yet significant rise in Black women's representation within the ring and behind the scenes.

One emblematic figure is Naomi, known offstage as Trinity Fatu, who stands among the pioneering women of color to secure a spot on WWE's main roster and command the spotlight in their significant events. Over the years, she has featured prominently in various WWE offshoots and carved out a space within the Women's Division. Her vibrant, neon-lit persona not only captivates but also serves as a rare beacon in a space where such diversity remains unexplored and underrepresented.

A complementary force of undeniable impact emerges in the dynamic alliance of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, the reigning two-time tag team champions. Together, they have ingeniously redefined their titles as emblems of unwavering determination and cohesive collaboration, interwoven with distinctive qualities that set them apart in a crowded field.

Bianca brings an effervescent blend of flair, audacity, and exceptional athleticism, showcased through her spontaneous, high-flying feats—executed with the panache of flipping through the wrestling ring while adorned with oversized earrings and her signature, whip-like braid cascading behind her. Meanwhile, Jade embodies sheer resilience, formidable strength, and relentless perseverance, which is evident in her commanding presence and her arsenal of power moves that convey a potent physicality. Her aura is reminiscent of Storm, the revered Marvel superheroine, whose strength and grace exude authority and command respect. Featuring these extraordinary women on nationally syndicated television programs, sold-out arena tours, Peacock specials, and cross-country events extends an invitation to other Black women to envision the unimaginable and to realize they need not struggle for a mere place at the table. Their presence must transcend their artistic talents, narrative prowess, and the confines of their professional personas or measurable achievements. Black women deserve to be honored and celebrated for more than just their excellence; they should be acknowledged for shaping contemporary cultural paradigms and driving the momentum of societal change.

From shattering barriers and exceeding the unattainable standards so often imposed upon them to pioneering trends reverberating throughout the culture—be it in hairstyles, fashion, vernacular, or beyond—these women serve as architects of what constitutes the modern American identity. Their impact is not confined to the wrestling ring or the stage; it extends far beyond into the very fabric of society, challenging conventions, and redefining norms in ways that inspire others to follow.

Should Vice President Kamala Harris assume the presidency, her tenure could redefine these relationships. Her extensive experience in foreign policy, coupled with her multicultural background, offers a unique vantage point that could infuse international affairs with fresh perspectives. The nuanced understanding of diverse cultures and global dynamics might lead to innovative approaches to fostering international cooperation and addressing global challenges.

With the announcement that President Joe Biden is stepping down from the race and endorsing the Vice President, who has enthusiastically accepted the mantle of responsibility, this election year has taken on unprecedented significance.

Kamala's presidential candidacy marks a transformative moment in the political landscape of the United States (and I bet Shirley Chisholm is proud from the Heavens above!). As the first woman of South Asian and African American descent to seek the presidency from a major U.S. political party, Harris's bid represents a historic breakthrough.

This milestone holds profound significance, symbolically and practically. It sends a resounding message to future generations, challenging entrenched norms and redefining who can aspire to the highest office in the land. Kamala's presence in the presidential race provides a powerful narrative that resonates with young people, especially those from historically underrepresented communities, offering them a beacon of inspiration. Her candidacy underscores the critical importance of diversity and inclusion in leadership, illustrating that political power and leadership are attainable regardless of race or gender.

Moreover, she has a wealth of political experience that she brings to her presidential campaign. Her stint as a U.S. Senator have given her a deep understanding of the legislative process, foreign policy intricacies, and federal governance. Her previous roles as California's Attorney General and District Attorney of San Francisco have provided her with valuable insights into the criminal justice system, establishing her as a strong proponent of significant reforms.

Kamala’s has consistently prioritized issues such as criminal justice reform, healthcare, and climate change – a paramount importance to many Americans. Her advocacy for criminal justice reform is deeply informed by her prosecutorial background, where she has actively pursued changes to rectify systemic inequalities within the justice system. Her experience has driven her to champion policies that aim to reduce mass incarceration, eliminate cash bail, and enhance police accountability, fostering a more equitable legal framework.

Her healthcare policies, for example, are designed to enhance accessibility and affordability, addressing a fundamental concern for numerous families nationwide. Her proposals include expanding Medicaid, reducing prescription drug costs, and ensuring comprehensive coverage for pre-existing conditions, striving to create a more inclusive and efficient healthcare system.

Regarding climate change, Kamala’s staunchly supports ambitious plans to transition to renewable energy and significantly reduce carbon emissions. Her stance on environmental sustainability aligns with the increasing public demand for decisive action to combat climate change. Her advocates for investments in green infrastructure, clean energy jobs, and stringent environmental regulations to safeguard the planet for future generations.

This shift in discourse, or “political” move, is pivotal because it shapes public opinion and can precipitate concrete policy changes. When a presidential candidate, who happens to be the Vice President, prioritizes specific issues, it signals to voters and other politicians that these matters are critical and merit focused attention. And, if executed well, can initiate a domino effect and encourage more candidates and elected officials to adopt similar stances, fostering a broader consensus, and leading to eventual legislative action.

Taking everything into consideration, Kamala's presidential candidacy has the potential to substantially alter public discourse and policy priorities in the United States. Her presence in the race alone draws critical attention to issues that might otherwise be marginalized or insufficiently emphasized. Harris can significantly influence the national conversation by foregrounding topics such as racial justice, healthcare reform, and climate action, ensuring these crucial matters occupy a prominent place on the political agenda.

However, the network's top host (and Anderson Cooper's drinking buddy) is celebrating 15 years as the face of the network, hosting various reunion shows along with 'Watch What Happens Live.'

In the article, Andy Cohen talks about his career, the making of The Real Housewives franchise and the drama behind the scenes, his response to Bethenny Frankel, and becoming a father:

Some critics have complained that you and Bravo have been slow to adapt in some ways. Eboni Williams, the first Black New York Housewife, says she encountered pervasive racism on the show.

I can’t speak to her particular experience, and I’m no longer in charge of programming decisions there, but I’m proud of all the work that Bravo has put into making their shows more representative of the country’s demographics. George Floyd was an important cultural shift that forced us to look at all of our programming. Bravo made it a mandate to diversify its shows. I mean, they had a show, Summer House, that was like a bunch of white people in the Hamptons. Southern Charm was a bunch of white people tomcatting in Charleston. They thought, “Why are a lot of the shows so segregated?” They decided that there needed to be more representation across the dial. And they did it. 

Brandi Glanville and Caroline Manzo have both complained about sexual harassment. And Leah McSweeney told Vanity Fair that ratings-mad producers hid liquor bottles on the set and sabotaged her sobriety. Are these isolated complaints or symptoms of a larger problem?

Unfortunately, I can’t talk about some of these things. What I’ll say about the alcohol is that we have so many sober people and people who have gotten sober on the show, like Countess Luann [de Lesseps]. We have people who’ve never had a drink during the entire run of the show. Jill Zarin. Kandi Burris. Heather Dubrow will just have an occasional glass of champagne. So sure, there are people who drink. There are many people who never drink. We don’t force anyone to do anything. But no one is secretly hiding liquor bottles on set. That’s ridiculous. We’ve been very supportive of people’s sobriety. 

But Bravo wouldn’t be the first network to use liquor to gin up some drama. 

We don’t need to gin up drama! Have you seen Ramona Singer on a random Tuesday at 1 p.m.? Have you ever run into Lisa Rinna at noon? Lisa Rinna does not need a glass of rosé in order to tell you exactly how she is feeling. Margaret Josephs only drinks Diet Coke, and she is a truth cannon wherever she goes. I don’t think Teresa Giudice would say that it was the red wine that caused her to flip that table! We start filming the reunions at 6 a.m. for God’s sake!

There are now calls for reality stars to be unionized, with your old friend Bethenny Frankel leading the charge. The Housewives have made Bravo millions by opening up their lives to the cameras. Shouldn’t they be paid as much as actors?

I have a lot to say about that. But I need to make clear that I’m speaking as an independent producer. This is not Bravo speaking. This is my take on it. If you look at shows like American Idol, Survivor, The Bachelor or the Below Deck people, 90 percent or more of the reality stars on them are on for one season or less. Also, acting is a full-time profession. You don’t go to school to be a reality star. Reality stars typically have other jobs. They’re bar owners, they’re designers. They’re doctors. I think the way that Bravo pays people is that it’s a buyout — they’re buying them out for a show that can be distributed in certain ways, and the longer you stay on, the higher your salary gets. And salaries for people who have been on a long time are really high. Look, you’re not drafted into the Real Housewives. You either want to be on the show or not, and you either see it as having some greater benefit for you or not. You have a business you’re trying to launch, you have a music career you’re trying to launch, you want exposure. And so you say, “OK, I’m going to look at this for the long game and maybe parlay my exposure on the show into other lucrative opportunities.” And many of them do just that.

You had close ties to some of your critics. Bravo helped make Bethenny [Frankel] a multimillionaire. Have you felt hurt by some of the criticism you’ve received? Do you have any regrets about how you handled anything?

You know, I am a nostalgic person. I’m someone who appreciates everyone being on the same ride. I’m incredibly proud of the close relationships I’ve built in my 20 years at the network. I’m super proud of what we’ve built and of everybody who’s been a part of it. I think most people involved with these shows have been very grateful for the platform, but there will always be a few with complaints. Obviously, it’s no fun to be a target. So, yes, it’s hurtful. But I have no regrets about the way I’ve handled anything. I think everything that happens in your life informs the next thing that happens in your life. That’s the way I look at all this. I know what the truth is and I know how I’ve conducted myself, and I walk tall every day on that. There are legions of fans who are passionately devoted to this brand. It’s a tonic that helps them get through the pains and obstacles in their lives. When I got onstage at BravoCon, I was just blown away — 35,000 screaming people who came in from all across the globe. It was an intense experience that helped me put all this in perspective.

You once said that you’ve been preparing to be famous since you were 7. Has it been as fulfilling as you imagined?

Anderson [Cooper] always says that no one enjoys being famous more than I do. I view it as a gift. I used to walk my dog three or four times a day in New York City and people were like, “Hey, Andy!” How great is that? I live in this big city and everyone calls my name and says hello. I have a personal relationship with my audience. They feel like they know me because they do know me. How I am on TV and on the radio is pretty much the same as I am in person. But there’s a part of me that still can’t believe that I can get reservations at fancy restaurants. I can’t believe I get into the Met Ball! 

You’re single, right? How do you meet people when you’re a celebrity?

I’m on all the apps! I’m on Grindr, Tinder, Scruff, Hinge, Raya …

How’s that working out for you?

Well, I got kicked off Grindr once because somebody reported me for impersonating myself. People are like, “Nice try. Why are you sending me Andy Cohen’s pictures?” But once in a while it will work out. 

What made you decide to become a single dad?

I always knew that I wanted to be a parent. I knew I’d be good at it. But when I first came to New York, I became hypnotized by the city and the media and celebrity and all that entailed. And I love all that. I love media, I love New York. I love celebrity. I had an incredible time. I was on yachts and going to parties in the Hamptons with Barry and all that stuff. But after a while, I started to think to myself, “Is this what I’m going to do for the rest of my life? Is this all there is for me?” Eventually the holidays started becoming lonely. I’d go home to St. Louis for Thanksgiving, and a lot of my high school friends weren’t there anymore or they had a boatload of kids. So I started to wonder where I fit in. I mean, I love the party, but I don’t want to be the last guy at the party. Then when I turned 49, I had a boyfriend who was 20 years younger who did not want kids and didn’t want to get married. And I was like, OK, I’ve got to move on. If I’m going to have kids, it has to happen now. 

Queer Eye put Bravo on the map, but Real Housewives took it to a new level. How did that show happen? 

It all started when this ad guy named Scott Dunlop brought us this video of his neighbors in Orange County. At the time, Desperate Housewives was a huge hit on ABC; his big idea was to bring Desperate Housewives to life. And there was no better place for it than Orange County. The women were bored and rich. Their hair was big and blond, their boobs were bigger. One woman, Vicki [Gunvalson], even had a grotto in her backyard. But Scott’s idea was maybe a little less grounded in reality. We wanted it to be a docuseries about these women and their friendships.

At what point did you know it would be a huge success?

It took a while, actually. We almost pulled the plug on the first season. The production team we hired would rave about all the great scenes they were getting on tape, and when we watched them, it was just … underwhelming. I remember a meeting where we talked about if we wound up killing the Real Housewives, what would the loss be? By that time, we were $400,000 in, so we decided to just push forward.
